Worst. Race. Ever.
Hot. Humid. Pain. Lots.
Apparently, my training has been worse than I thought. I really struggled out there today.
I was okay through the first loop of the race, slowed a little during the second and almost died the last one. I got a huge cramp in my calf right at the finish line, which was a little embarrassing as I hobbled the last 10-15 meters.
It was my first race or more than 5K distance in a long while and I really expected to struggle. And I did.
I'll get better.
My mileage is not where it needs to be. My weight is not where it needs to be. Both will get there.

It was good seeing a lot of friends out there today, including one that I haven't seen in years. Again, thanks to Cassie for picking up my race stuff.

runnin'
Still runnin' just no time to post. Working two jobs now, sometimes more. Sometimes working jobs without pay (thanks Jon).
Here's the deal.
We bought a photography studio in Lufkin a couple weeks ago. It's a huge business. I'm leaving the teaching biz at the end of this semester to manage the office there. Not necessarily to be a photographer, but to free up Donna to focus even more on what she does very well. Take pictures.
I've been going there a few days a week after school. Also taking a communications course at SFA, working on my Masters in Communications.
Also doing some freelance writing for the Lufkin Daily News.
---
Anyway, back to the runnin'.
Still getting in some mileage, though probably not enough to do real well at Sunmart next month. I'm running the 25K this weekend in Houston, though I'm not too worried about my finishing time. I'm just going to get the miles in and maybe run into a few people. Not literally, I hope.
I also signed up for the 8 mile race in Dallas on Thanksgiving Day.
---
Below left: Ashton, me and Jenna before the first day of school. Then Jenna (far left) and her soccer teammates. Jenna scored three goals, more than any girl on her team and maybe more than any girl in the U5 league. She's very good. I ain't just saying that cause I'm her dad. She inherited a lot of my athletic ability. Duh.
Ashton is taking some art classes and doing very well at that.
I'm ready for the semester to be over - at Diboll and SFA - so I can focus on our new business.
Looking forward to seeing some friends in Houston Sunday morning. Thanks to Cassie, who volunteered to pick up my race packet. You're the best.
