Davy Crockett Bear Chase 1/2 marathon, Groveton, TX
1:44:45 - 7:59 pace
Saw lots of people from all areas of my life. From Lake Jackson, Pearland, Huntsville, Diboll Lufkin, Spring, etc...... There were times when I couldn't figure out who to talk to first. Geez...
The race was pretty good for me. Put in a lot of miles the last month or so and it paid off okay. I doubt I coulda run 8 minute miles for 13.1 miles a couple months ago even though it was a nice, cool morning.
But today, I ran decent.
At every mile marker I was anywhere from 5 - 15 seconds faster than 8 minute pace. Very consisent throughout.
Ran near a fast marathoner for the first three or four miles then backed off a little and settled into a nice pace.
The terrain was varied. Started on the track at the Groveton football stadium (the Indians were a state power in Class 2A for a long time and beat my hometown high school (Diboll) a lot even though we were a 3A school), went through the parking lot and then around a cemetery onto a quasi-dirt/gravel-like road.
We went from there to a highway, hit some trails/roads again (where there were some soft spots, but mostly packed), and then turned back.
Was a little hilly in spots, but more of a gradual incline.
I was satisfied with my results, but am still looking to get better. My time today is almost 6 minutes off my half PR.
After the race hung out with friends for a long time. Didn't leave until around 1:30 or so. Much fun.
